Up until now all the dragons I have submitted to Deviantart have been either cute, non realistic, or old drawings of dragons. So here is one that I just finished that I tried to make as realistic as possible. Let me tell you one thing, drawing that many scales is a real pain………. Oi!! It took forever, because I had to sketch them in lightly first so I could get an idea of where they would relatively go, and then I had to shade over them dark in some places and lighter in others. Then I had to erase down the middle of each section to give it a different lighting so each section would stand out. After that I redrew each individual scale again to make them darker, so they would stand out! Haha! I am so happy about how the scales turned out, first time I drew scales that actually looked like scales instead of feathers. In the background it’s supposed to look like a dreary rainy day. Does the background look like it’s actually raining? This is the first time I have drawn clouds in this style. Hehe… Chaos is smiling at everyone!

Yep my second high detailed picture finished, wow these take forever. I started this back in September and just finished it about 3 days ago. This took about 16 hours to draw. That‘s about 3 weeks because I didn‘t work on it everyday, it’s official drawing scales drives me insane, you have no idea how much of my sanity I lost to these scales. Making his skin stand out was really a pain as well. Shading took about 11 hours, holy crap that’s along time for shading when it comes to me. Usually I don’t take that long to shade. Adds up to a months worth of shading on and off. The shading on his eye and around it, I have no clue how I did it, but it made it look more realistic. I already explained how I did the scales, so I am not going to explain it again, you all are probably getting annoyed by my ranting on the scales, but I just love how I got them to turn out! ^.^ So all in all about 5 months or 27 hours, depending on how you look at it, on just one picture! Ahahaha! YiPpY!! For it’s done!

This was all done with a .7 lead mechanical pencil. Hooray!! For mechanical pencils because they never get dull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
